Allegations of child abuse and stories of Catholic Priests behaving badly are among problems facing the Church establishment the past years. The latest, someone at the Vatican is downloading porn but who did? The story got out this week when Huffington Post writer David Moye, released a piece describing how two Porn actresses found their video downloaded and watched by an anonymous source in Vatican City. It was a scene Tiffany Starr, a Pre-op transsexual filmed with actress Sheena Shaw but later found viewed within the Holy grounds. “It doesn’t change my stand against piracy, but I was pretty excited,” Starr told the Huffington Post.

How much can the society take? With a new Pope in charge, probably time for the church leadership to reconsider its celibacy rules. The Catholic faith is known to favor conservative ideology, on many life and family issues, including abortion, stem cell research, gay marriage, death penalty and so forth. Despite its conservative principle on these issues, especially gay marriage, there is a sense of hypocrisy within the Catholic faith. Some of its priests are facing criminal and civil suits for abusing children. The victims, mostly boys, who have been sexually, abused one time or the other in their lifetime while attending a Catholic institution or serving within the church. In some cases the abuse went on for years before being discovered. In others, the discoveries came too late with victims left with the psychological rigor of abuse.

As the home of the Pope, Vatican City is a symbolic place revere by Catholics worldwide. Many consider it the holy land outside Israel but to turn it into a house of porn is likely too much for those in the faith to accept. While it is unclear who watched the film, it is indisputable the viewing took place inside the Vatican, based on record the anonymous viewer downloaded from an IP address in Vatican City. People of faith are known to detest porn, to many it is immoral and totally against religious doctrine, while some in the Christian faith believe those who take part in pornography are going to hell. It is ironic a church that based its foundation on service and perfect example to the Christian faith, has swayed from its beliefs to become a church damaged by allegations of sexual misconduct and child abuse.

Porn actress Lea Lexis also discovered her porn scene in which she appeared flogging, paddling and spanking another co-star Krissy Lynn, got downloaded inside the Vatican. “It is not for everybody,” she told Huffington Post Live. In her opinion, the downloaded videos show there are “hypocrites” everywhere. Her dismay, the downloaded sexual contents were “torrents,” meaning somebody inside the Vatican stole the movies and never paid for them. She thinks the revelation proved Priests are living in a “glass house.” “Porn stars have been judged for our industry and doing what we do, especially by Catholics and Christians.” “We all know everyone watches porn and this is a statement that really everybody watches porn,” she said in an interview with HuffPost Live reporter Alyona Minkovski.

While her views could be overstated or generalized, the latest developments, unveils the hypocrisy within the Catholic Church. It would be unfair to say, “everyone watches porn,” because most analysts agree Christianity is against pornography and real people of faith want nothing to do with porn. However, stories of child abuse and sexual misconduct in the Catholic Church makes it necessary to invite debates, over what has become a problem in the faith. More of its priests are becoming wayward by engaging in the unexpected. Those with duty to serve the congregation are vexing their sexual orgies on children and now, there is a shift to pornography as way to satisfy aberrant sexual needs.

Not an overstatement to say the church needs a review of its conservative ideology. It might be time for the Vatican to show some flexibility, as to celibacy, by allowing its clergy the choice of marriage. It is clear there is something wrong, the church has adopted the position that “you can’t eat your cake and have it.” However, there are those who want the opportunity to serve the church and be able to satisfy their sexual needs same time especially, on marriage issues. Catholic leadership cannot be willfully blind to a problem that continues to tarnish its reputation. The Church’s establishment must make its policy on celibacy to show today’s reality, and not stay adamant and uncompromising on its archaic religious principles.
