The long-awaited royal baby is finally here delivered at 4:24 PM and it is a boy for both, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and his wife Catherine the Duchess of Cambridge. Just before 6:00 AM, the Princess arrived at St Mary’s Hospital and got admitted to the Lindo wing of the research clinic, where news came out she was in labor. Not long afterwards, Prince William arrived at the hospital to be with his wife as the world waited in anticipation for the arrival of the baby, who is third in line to the British throne.

The news of a possible birth last week generated a lot of media attention. News outlets from different nations camped outside the hospital, in a desperate attempt to be first to break the news of a royal birth. Sex of the baby who will now take the title PRINCE OF CAMBRIDGE, was kept a secret by the royals, despite all efforts by the media to find out, though some thought the Princess was having a girl because months earlier at an event, she almost mentioned the word “daughter,” when someone in the crowd handed her a gift and she said: “I will make sure this gets to my baby dau…” but stopped midway.

It is unknown what name the baby will have, but experts on the royals have said it could be 10 days before announcement of the name. Prior to the baby’s delivery, British bookmakers favored the names James and John for a boy, while some claimed the baby might be named Alexandra, Charlotte, Elizabeth, Grace or Victoria if a girl. Some parents with newborns in Britain, have delayed naming their babies in hopes of either copying or avoiding giving their child same name as the royal.

Just like every royal birth, birth of the new member of the British throne is expected to generate business. The Center for Retail Research indicates retailers will sell about $121 million worth of royal baby souvenirs and toys. Collectors all over Britain and worldwide known for buying anything royal, are preparing for another opportunity to grab royal collections and worthwhile artifacts expected to jump in value decades later.

Months ago, the royal pregnancy became a matter of controversy, when Jacintha Saldanha, a nurse in the hospital where the pregnant Princess was admitted for morning sickness, committed suicide. Saldanha took her own life, after she was accused of revealing private information about Catherine’s medical condition, to two Australian DJs, Mel Greig and Michael Christian. Both had placed false calls to the hospital while Greig, disguised her voice as Queen Elizabeth to get information about the Duchess’s condition.

Both DJs later expressed their sorrow over Saldanha’s suicide. Greig acknowledged the call was a “silly” idea, which they never thought could lead to such an unfortunate end. She claimed they never expected to speak to the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge or converse with anyone at the hospital, when both placed a call pretending as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles.

While the Queen is happy to welcome a great-grandson, many wonder whether she would quit the throne for her son Prince Charles, after decades of her reign as the Queen of England. On July 3, the King of Belgium Albert II, announced he would abdicate the throne for his son, Crown Prince Philippe, who later succeeded his father as the king of Belgium on Sunday July 21, 2013. Earlier, the Netherland’s Queen Beatrice gave up the throne for her son and not long ago, the king of Qatar stepped down for his son to become king.

Royal critics believe Queen Elizabeth hopes to stay in power until her death. With that in mind, it may take many more years before Prince Charles becomes king. With Prince William second in line to his father and the newborn third in line to the Duke of Cambridge, the British throne is a far reach for Prince Harry, who royal experts say might be Duke of Essex upon marriage.
